Lost No More: Warrnambool’s Hottest New Eatery is Here

Warrnambool's culinary scene has recently welcomed a delightful addition: Lost Cat, a family-run restaurant offering simple and seasonal fare in a relaxed atmosphere.

Located on Warrnambool’s main street, this eatery is the brainchild of chef Zac Nicholson and his partner Jasmine Leung, who returned to Zac's hometown to bring a touch of city dining to the coastal community.

I have now visited twice, once for lunch and once for dinner and each time I feel like there are so many amazing flavours bursting from each dish.

The inspiration behind Lost Cat is as charming as its name. After years in Melbourne's fast-paced culinary world, including stints at Jamsheed and City Larder, Zac and Jasmine decided to relocate for a more balanced lifestyle at the suggestion of their children. The restaurant's name pays homage to their long-lost cat, Larry, symbolizing a fresh start and new adventures.

Occupying the former site of The Hairy Goat, Lost Cat has quickly become a local favorite since its opening in early January 2025.

The establishment has a true family atmosphere, with Jasmine managing the front of house and their children assisting in various roles. The menu is simple and seasonal, diners can enjoy dishes like snapper crudo with white soy, grilled cabbage with cashew cream, and scotch fillet enhanced with umami butter. The menu is dynamic, reflecting the freshest local produce available, particularly from Merri Banks Market Garden.

Whether you're a local or just passing through, Lost Cat promises a memorable dining experience that combines the warmth of family with the sophistication of modern Australian cuisine.
